It requires making a 10-12 inch vertical incision and splitting the breastbone to access the heart, replace the patient’s own heart valve, and mend the aneurysm. WebMethods: A narrative inquiry was conducted with a sample of 16 individuals. Interviews were completed 2 to 4 days after transfer from cardiovascular intensive care, and 4 to 6 weeks after discharge. Participants completed journals between these 2 time periods. Results: Discharge and the return home were highlighted as key transitions.
